When you stay with us — the honest answer is not much.
Packing vacation bags can sometimes be a challenge, especially when you are flying. You never quite know what to pack, or how much you might need.

We’ve compiled a quick, (but not exhaustive) list of things you might like to have with you on your upcoming Hawaiian vacation. And if you’re staying with us the list of what you actually need is way shorter than you might think.
The Checklist
First, make sure you are within the luggage regulations for your particular flight. Each airline has regulations on your bag size and weight for both carry-on and check-in luggage. Give them a call or visit their website to get this information. The last thing you want is to have a bag denied once you are at the airport!
The next thing you’ll want to do is check the TSA guidelines for some of the items you might have questions about. One of the most important things to note is if you have any liquids (makeup, sunscreen, toothpaste, drinks, etc.) make sure each container meets the guidelines and put them in a separate plastic bag that is easy to access. You will need to show TSA this bag before entering the terminal.
The essentials
- A change of clothes for at least 4 days.
- No need to go overboard here! There is a private (and free!) washer and dryer inside your condo, eliminating the need for a huge bag of clothing.
- You will mostly want light clothing as the weather is typically warm and tropical, lows are usually in the low 70’s throughout the year.
- One sweatshirt and a pair of warmer pants is probably sufficient for watching sunsets, or going out for dinner. If you are worried about weather, check out the historical weather for the month you plan to visit.
- A bathing suit.
- Sunglasses.
- Toothbrush, tooth paste, and floss.
- Comb or hairbrush.
- Beauty products and accessories.
- Any medications you might be taking.
- Reef-safe sunscreen.
- Hawaii is actually the first state to ban the sale of non-reef safe sunscreen. Be sure to look on the bottle for the words “Reef Safe”. If you don’t see them, don’t buy it!
- Why this is important: Some ingredients in traditional sunscreens have been found to actually kill the ocean’s reefs.
- Your cell phone and the charger for it.
- Small snacks for the flight.
- Note that you can bring fresh fruit in to Hawaii, but not out of Hawaii!
And that’s about it!
Since you’ll be staying in a furnished home, complete with smart-TV’s, a washer and dryer, beach towels, beach toys, chairs, umbrellas and some of the essential items you might need, you really don’t need to bring much.
This should leave you with ample room in your luggage for all of those awesome souvenirs, and Hawaiian clothing. Because seriously, who can visit Hawaii without bringing a piece of it home?
Aloha!
